July 9th, 2010 - 1:39 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattAugusta, July 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The law enforcement officials fatally shot at an armed veteran in Augusta. And the most ironical thing is that the shooting happened in the vicinity of the Veterans Affairs Hospital, which is located in Augusta.
The state Attorney General - Janet Mills confirmed the news of the shooting. In the shooting incident a local police official and two game wardens were also involved. The exact events, which led to the shootout, are yet to be determined, but on first impressions it does seem to be a shooting in self-defense.
The state Attorney General - Janet Mills said that, “From the preliminary investigation, it appears to be defense of themselves and defense of third parties.”
There is a witness to the shooting as well – Paul Stevens and he added that in all around 8 shots were fired from both the sides and at the end, the veteran collapsed to the ground. The identity of the armed military veteran wasn’t disclosed. Paul also added that it appeared as though the veteran was armed with a rifle. It is not known for sure, but it appears that he was also the owner of the Toyota vehicle that was parked nearby.
“It’s a sad thing. I just think it’s awful for someone to lose their life that like,” according to Glenwood Shaw, who is Paul Stevens’ uncle.
