Los Angeles, Oct 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Some pranks can be costly and in this case also land a person behind bars.

A 19-year-old boy has been thrown into jail for 15 months for playing a prank with a police helicopter that was involved in a burglary investigation.

The teenager - Nathan Ramon Wells aimed his laser pointer at the helicopter and caused the helicopter pilot to change the chopper’s course.

After realizing the source of the beam, the pilot called for patrol backup and trailed Nathan’s car leading to his arrest.

When the police searched Nathan’s car, they found the laser pointer in his car and subsequently arrested him. The incident happened in June 2009 and Nathan was recently found guilty of the incident and jailed for almost one-and-a-half years in prison.

It is debated that the judge was harsh with the sentencing. However considering that the beam was strong enough to cause the pilot of the chopper to change his course means the situation was serious. In any way, we hope Nathan learns a great lesson from what had happened.

Whatever your line of argument is, it is important to realize that while playing pranks, especially on law enforcement authorities is not so funny.
