Oct. 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Tuesday morning saw Larry Johnson, issue an apology for using a gay-slur while he was on an exchange with his Twitter followers. A National Gay Rights Advocacy Organization called and asked his team to take action against him. Later, he refused to comment on the whole incident. The same night (Sunday), Twitter saw him question Todd Haley’s (coach) credentials. Larry is Kansas City Chief’s running back. Larry was asked to stay away from his team till his gay slur was being investigated by NFL and the Chiefs.
The Kansas City Chiefs made an announcement saying that Larry has been barred from taking part in all the activities that relate to the team. He will continue to be absent until his investigation gets over. They issued a statement saying, “The Kansas City Chiefs and the National Football League are continuing to investigate the alleged comments made by Larry Johnson.” Until that review is complete, the Chiefs have instructed Larry to refrain from practicing with the Chiefs or participating in other team activities. A decision regarding Larry’s status will be made once the investigation has been concluded.
The president of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) commented on the whole matter saying, that an important message has been sent to the public through Larry’s apology, the message being that the usage of ‘anti-gay epithets’ have no excuses whatsoever.
Around a year ago, Larry had been accused of throwing a drink on a women and of pushing another. The separate incidents took place in nightclubs, for which Larry was given a two year long probation period. He plead guilty on both the counts. He was also made to sit under the bench for three games and suspended for one game.
