The RIA Novosti news agency said the Russian TU-204 Aviastar-TU jet, which originated from Hurghada in Egypt, was approaching one of the landing strips of Domodedovo International Airport, one of Russia’s largest airports. It crashed about one kilometer from the airport, near Aviagorodok village.
Reports said the plane was carrying only eight crew members, not nine as earlier reported, and no passengers. Two of the crew members sustained serious injuries, while the others sustained less severe injuries.
The aircraft was approaching Domodedovo airport during thick fog, RIA Novosti reported, and dropped off the radar about one kilometer from the runway. “A search operation was organized and found the aircraft destroyed,” the report said.
