Large explosion rocks Kandahar
August 25th, 2009 - 11:14 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )KANDAHAR (BNO NEWS) — A large explosion rocked the southern Afghan city of Kandahar on Tuesday evening, local officials told BNO News. There was no immediate word on casualties.
The blast happened around 7 p.m. local time. “It was a vehicle which exploded, we don’t know yet if it was a suicide attack,” a spokesman for the Afghan Interior Ministry said. The target of the car bombing was not yet known.
A spokesman for the NATO-led ISAF alliance confirmed there were reports of an explosion in Kandahar, but said no foreign troops were involved.
Both officials said more information was expected soon. Meanwhile, local police officials told the Reuters news agency that there were a lot of fatalities and injured.
