ABUJA (BNO NEWS) — A large explosion rocked a United Nations building in the Nigerian capital of Abuja on late Friday morning, officials said, and many casualties are feared.

The explosion happened just after 10.30 a.m. local time, destroying a large part of the three-story building where hundreds of people were working. Casualties could be seen being carried from the devastated building.

“For the moment we can only confirm that there has been a bomb, but we don’t have any more information to give you about numbers or anything else,” said Alessandra Vellucci, a UN spokeswoman in Geneva.

Local media reports said at least 8 people were killed.
