Large crater opens up beneath German village

Schmalkalden, Nov 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Residents of a German town woke up to the shock of their lives when they realized that a large crater has divided the town’s road and for that matter the town into two. The large crater that formed oversight has baffled the country’s authorities and some 23 households near where the crater (has been formed) have been evacuated from the place for safety reasons. One car was swallowed by the crater and another car hanged precariously on the edge of the crater when residents woke up in the morning.

The crater which is some 40 meters wide and measures up to 20 meters deep remains a mystery because authorities do not know how it was formed. The road remains impassable now and fortunately nobody was injured in the incident. The authorities however suspect that may be the crater was formed when a rock formation beneath the surface gave way. If that is the case, then authorities have a very high task at hand because there may be several other rocks around the town.

The country plans to close the crater by filling the whole formed with gravels. Investigators into how the incident happened are ongoing.
