Lakehurst Naval Air Station Witnesses Two Hour Lock Down

01472Lakehurst, June 22, (THAINDIAN NEWS) New Jersey’s Lakehurst Naval Air Station was locked down on Monday morning owing to two back-to-back reports. The first report was of a gunshot and the second report said that a man found carrying a firearm has been detained. The lock down orders were issued by the base security forces to which the naval air station responded promptly and locked down the entire area around 9.30 am. It was said that both the incidents had occurred at the entrance of the naval air base.

It was one of the entrances of the naval air station where a security official had heard a gunfire. Soon after that a delivery man was stopped at the gates through which all non-commercial deliveries are made. The officials suspected the delivery man as most of the regular deliverymen makes their deliveries at the commercial gate. After he was interrogated, the driver of the delivery ban confessed to the security officials that he was in possession of a 9 mm handgun. Following that the man was taken into custody.

As the airbase authorities delved deep into the investigation, they came to know that there was a gunfire at the gates of the naval air station. The entire area of naval air station was locked down for two hours until things returned to normal state at around 11 am. The naval air base happens to be a tri-service military facility which combines NAVAIR base, Fort Dix and the McGuire Air Force Base. The naval air base has formerly served to be an unit of Naval Air Engineering Station and it has a total of 3500 number employees.
