Jan 4, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The law enforcement officials had been searching the missing woman Kristi Cornwell, who disappeared a year ago, when she went out for a walk. In a recent development, the authorities said on Monday that her brother Richard Cornwell has found her skeletal remains in the north Georgia woods this weekend, after searching for hours. John Bankhead, the spokesperson of Georgia Bureau of Investigation stated in an official email that the officers used her dental records to identify her. However, he did not specify the cause of her death.
Kristi Cornwell used to work as a probation officer. She disappeared suddenly in August 2009 when she was walking near her home in the Union County and was on her cell phone with her boyfriend. However, later her boyfriend said that he overheard a struggle after Kristi Cornwell told him that she feels that a vehicle is following her. On the other hand, police previously suspected James Scott Carringer, as the cell phone records show that he was present at the place when Kristi Cornwell disappeared. However, the suspect later killed himself.
Richard Cornwell addressed the media at a news conference and told that the family is thankful to the police department for helping them to search for his sister and now Kristi Cornwell can have a proper burial that she deserves. GBI Director Vernon Keenan told that the medical officials could not determine the cause of death as Kristi Cornwell’s body had been burned. He said that Richard Cornwell has been searching for her sister diligently after she disappeared. The law enforcement officials said that though the primary suspect of the case is dead, yet it is an open investigation. However, Vernon Keenan said that they do not have any “direct evidence” now.
