Since the doughnuts are free, so around 6,000 people took part, and also ate some 72,000 doughnuts in the process. This event helped to raise around $40,000 for the North Carolina Children’s Hospital.
Krispy Kreme Challenge organizer Kalie Porterfield stated, “We are are amazed at the growth of the Krispy Kreme Challenge in its first five years. The tremendous community support and generosity helps us provide an annual donation for the kids and families at North Carolina Children’s Hospital.”
This event primarily started as a dare amongst ten N.C. State students in 2004. It is so popular that it has been mentioned in the Sports Illustrated’s “102 More Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate” list. It is a top favorite because it combines, running and eating.
