According to the version of Vion Keraf, working at PT Putri Naga Komodo, the huge sized reptile was chasing a monkey. However, later it attacked Marselinus Subanghadir, his colleague on Monday afternoon. The dragon bit the right foot of the victim, but he was able to give the animal a slip. The Komodo dragons can grow up to three meters in length and a fully grown up lizard is capable of attacking and killing big sized mammals including humans. The Komodo dragon is seen in Komodo and adjacent islands where the animals feed on deer, monkey and buffalos. The jaw of these animals has immense strength to tear the bone and flesh of the animals they target.

Marselinus Sabanhadir was reportedly approaching a toilet when the animal came out of a bush and attacked him. The chief of the Komodo National Park, Tamen Sitorus, said that Marselinus Sabanhadir received deep wounds in the leg that was bitten by the dragon. He was flown to Denpasar and admitted in the Sanglah Hospital. He also said that Komodo dragons are fierce by nature and have enough power to kill the prey. He urged the visitors of the park to move about cautiously to avoid attacks by the dragons.

The komodo dragons have toxic bacteria in their saliva and it helps in killing the animal they attack. Several cases of human death owing to such attacks have taken place.
