Belize, Oct 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The killer jaguar that claimed the life of a United States citizen in Belize has been captured by authorities.

The big cat managed to escape after the Central American country was hit by Hurricane Richard on Sunday. The animal killed the United States citizen later on, after it escaped.

Initial reports say that the animal escaped from the Belize Zoo but it turned out later that the animal was privately owned and it escaped from its cage after a tree fell on its cage and destroyed it.

The death of the US citizen prompted the United States consulate in Belize to warn United States citizens in the country of the danger posed by the stray animal.

The United States State Department issued a statement that said the animal was captured on Tuesday evening.

After the capture, the killer jaguar was put to sleep by the authorities, so that it could pose no other danger to human life in the future. However it is not known whether the owner of the animal will be charged in the accident.

There were no details on how the animal was captured.
