Kentucky to make community investment in Campton
March 13th, 2010 - 2:34 am ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )CAMPTON, KENTUCKY (BNO NEWS) – Kentucky will invest $641,000 in Transportation Enhancement (TE) funds in the construction of a pedway in the city of Campton in Wolfe County, Governor Steve Beshear announced on Friday.
The new pedway will connect a nursing home and residential housing complexes. Currently there isn’t any sidewalk to connect these areas. People walk on the shoulder of old KY 12 and KY 191, where 3,000 to 5,000 drive through each day.
The lack of sidewalk forces Campton parents to push baby strollers in the road, being this a very dangerous action for both pedestrians and drivers. The project will build 6,350 feet of sidewalk and will connect three low-income housing developments on the west side of KY 15 to the nursing home and downtown area on the east side of the same road.
“The people of Campton will finally be able to walk safely from one side of town to the other, without having to dodge traffic in the busy downtown. Projects like this strengthen our local communities,” Governor Beshear said.
