MOUNT CARMEL, KENTUCKY (BNO NEWS) — Six people were killed on late Saturday morning after a gunman went on a killing spree at a trailer park in eastern Kentucky, local and state officials said.

The shooting happened at around 11.35 a.m. EDT when police received a 911 call about a possible shooting at a small trailer park in Mount Carmel, a small community near the city of Jackson in Breathitt County. Officers from the Breathitt County Sheriff’s Office, from the Jackson Police Department and troopers from Kentucky State Police Post 13 in Hazard responded to the scene.

“Upon arrival the officers heard a single gunshot and located a male subject,” said Trooper Jody Sims of the Kentucky State Police, indicating that the gunman killed himself as officers neared the scene. Sims said the man, who is believed to be the gunman, died of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to Breathitt County Sheriff Ray Clemons, the gunman - who was identified as Stanley Neace - went on a killing spree at the trailer park. A total of five victims, all believed to be related to Neace, were found in several mobile homes. Neace was found dead on the porch of his home.

Authorities initially said several children were believed to be among the victims, but later said all victims were adults. Sheriff Clemons said the victims include Neace’s wife, a girlfriend, a daughter-in-law and a stepson. Their ages were not immediately known.

Sims said a 12-gauge shotgun was recovered at the scene of the shootings.
