Kentucky ice and snow crews battle harsh weather
February 16th, 2010 - 4:30 am ICT by BNO NewsFRANKFORT, KENTUCKY (BNO NEWS) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and contract snow and ice crews on Monday were mobilized across the State to battle the harsh winter weather.
Crews were plowing or treating roads, or both, in every county where snow is impacting travel — about 114 counties as of 8 a.m.local time. In some areas, heavy snowfall covered roadways almost as fast as crews could plow them.
As snow continues, roadways will remain slick and hazardous. The Cabinet urged motorists to always use extra caution while driving in wintry weather, including allowing plenty of room for snow plows and other heavy equipment. Allow ample travel time, and remember that bridges and overpasses typically freeze before surface-level roadways.
Although thousands of tons of snow-fighting chemicals have been dispensed during the latest snowstorm, the State has ample stocks of brine, salt and calcium chloride.
