Wichita, Kansas, May 28, (THAINDIAN NEWS) A doctor from Kansas has defended himself in court against the charges that have been levied against him, saying that he had never done anything that might be termed as unlawful or unethical regarding his profession. The doctor, Stephen Schneider, has been charged on 34 counts that include providing illegal prescriptions, money laundering and health care fraud. If convicted on all he charges, then Dr Stephen Schneider and his wife, Linda Schneider, who has also been accused of having assisted him in his unlawful activities, might be facing a sentence of life imprisonment. Stephen Schneider, however, has maintained that he is not guilty of any of the charges.
However, the government has been providing testimony of witnesses and evidences in order to indict the doctor. According to the court records, the doctor’s treatment has so far resulted in the death of about 21 people, many of them due to an overdose of the prescribed medicines. Moreover, he has also been accused of taking a shorter time than usual in a check up of his patients; as opposed to the stipulated 10 minutes, he was accused of taking only seven.
However, the defense attorney tried to present the doctor in a different light, explaining the huge number of his patients by saying that he used to take in patients who otherwise could not afford Medicaid. The doctor further proved that he took longer than the alleged seven minutes by simulating a check up process in the courtroom itself. He further said that he took a longer time if necessary, and adamantly refused to admit that he had ever prescribed any medicine that might have caused any harm to his patients.
