Kansas, Mar 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been reported that 17 schools in Kansas City, which have been consistently under-performing, will be given federal grants over three years. It has been reported that these schools will be receiving funds between $50,000 to $2 million. The decision has been taken to help these schools perform better academically, as they have been deemed “persistently lowest-achieving.”
The fund program from U.S. Department of Education is offering a whopping $3.5 billion for all school districts across the country owing to the implementation of reforms. It is also in the news that some Missouri schools have also qualified for the funding but the names for the same has not being declared yet.
Arne Duncan, the secretary for U.S. Department of Education proclaimed in a written declaration that every district school stands a chance to receive first time resources in meeting all reforms that encourage higher graduation rates, reduce the number of school dropouts and promise better teaching faculty for students. On the other hand, the offering seems to be a boon to the district schools already suffering from unparalleled cuts from the state. In spite of the fact that many of the schools did benefit hugely from the funding, the assessment scores continues to reveal the same picture.
The elementary schools that have been considered eligible are Emerson, Mark Twain, Banneker, Caruthers, New Chelsea, Grant, Lindbergh, Quindaro and Whittier. The Middle schools which fall under the offering list are Northwest, Argentine and Central while the high school list comprises of Wyandotte, Harmon, Schlagle, Washington and Fairfax Learning Center.
