According to sources, at least six Italian soldiers have been killed and four were injured when a suicide bomber bumped his car into the military convoy. The reported incident occurred in Central Kabul.
Sources reveal that the Italian soldiers, who later went on to become a vengeful victim of the Afghan terrorists, were traveling in two vehicles. The injured soldiers were hospitalized in serious, though not life threatening conditions, Defense Minister of Italy, Ignazio La Russa said. “It was a cowardly attack on those who have saved many lives,” said Russa. The Taliban have claimed the terrorist attack on the Italian convoy, the worst of the attacks on the Italian army since they have been deployed in Afghanistan. The blast occurred soon after the Afghan President Hamid Karzai ensured his faith over the election process.
According to the eye witnesses who were present at the location said that a vehicle crammed with explosives crashed into the Italian military convoy on Kabul’s one of the most busiest roads. “It was a suicide car bomb attack…it was an attack against the Italian forces,” said Kabul’s chief of criminal investigations. The eyewitnesses revealed that the massive explosion shook up the buildings that are constructed over the area, and a black cloud of dense smoke lingered over the place. At least four Italian soldiers are said to be seriously injured in the blast which has been billed as the worst of the attacks on the Italian soldiers since their deployment to Afghanistan. There are about 2,800 Italian troops in Afghanistan.
