Justin Barrett: Law Maker Or Law Breaker?

How hard you may try to wipe off racism from this weird system of ours, it still haunts you in your day to day life, thus proving that how much we consider ourselves to be ‘liberal’, we are still curbed by the ‘inhumane’ aspects of our soul. The recent incident, dealing with a Boston police officer Justin Barrett who has allegedly used a racial slur in order to describe black Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. is a perfect example of another explicit racist attack.
The Boston Police put Justin Barrett on administrative leave (suspension of course), pending a hearing for the termination of the officer. On the contrary, Barrett’s union, the Boston Police Patrolmen’s Association has reportedly released a statement saying that they condemn and “strongly denounce these statements as being offensive and hurtful.” The 36 year old officer Barrett was not available for any comments.
Barrett’s union laid stress on the fact that the investigators should look deep down into the matter before drawing any conclusion. According to the Boston police department, Barrett does not have any previous records dealing with any sort of offense that he had committed. According to the reliable source, the Boston Mayor Thomas Menino had reportedly stated, “An individual preaching hate has no place in our country.”
Earlier, professor Gates was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct at his home near Harvard University by a white officer who reportedly mistook him as a burglar. Although charges against the professor was dropped, but a new controversy regarding the usage of racial slur sparked a national debate regarding racial profiling.
According to the reports, Gates did not pass on any comments regarding the dismissal of Barrett, who had allegedly humiliated the officer with his racially instigated comments.
