Jury can’t agree on John ‘Junior’ Gotti verdict

November 26th, 2009 - 11:07 pm ICT by Aishwarya Bhatt Tell a Friend -

Manhattan, Nov 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The jury can’t decide on the John Gotti verdict yet again. The jury said that they are unable to reach a verdict.

The judge presiding over the trial in Manhattan federal court sent the jurors home on Thursday and told them they would return Monday to keep deliberating on the verdict. They have been doing so for more than a week.

“We are unable to reach a verdict,” the jurors wrote in a note to U.S. District Judge Kevin Castel on the seventh day of deliberations in federal court in Manhattan. So Kevin Castel called the jurors in the afternoon and told them to keep deliberating. He sent them home about an hour later, saying they would return Monday.

“My advice to you is to try not to think about the case … and to return rested and refreshed on Monday morning,” Castel said to the jurors before dismissing them.

It may be recalled that, the trial is the fourth time prosecutors have sought a conviction against John Gotti. The three previous trials also finished in hung juries.

The attorneys for John Gotti claimed that he quit the Mafia in 1999. They clarified that other people involved have framed him, so that they can get a lenient punishment themselves.
