Judge James Pickles dies at the age of 85 years

London, Dec 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) One of Britain’s most outspoken and controversial judges, James Pickles had died at the age of 85 years.

His 1986 article in the Guardian is believed to have triggered transformation in the British legal system. Not many people agree with that assertion though. Many dismiss him as a buffoon because of his unbridled tongue that is seen by many as unethical for a judge.

Pickles had many controversial moments in his life. For instance in 1989, he sent a lady to prison because she was too scared to testify against her husband who frequently abused her. That did not go down well with several people. They accused the judge of being inconsiderate. His sentencing of the woman was eventually overruled by the appeals court. That did not stop him from giving another controversial judgment.

In 1990, Pickles severely jailed a single mother for shoplifting. He claimed that if he had spared her, it would encourage other single mothers to steal.

His comes from a family full of entertainers. Most of his family members are actors are involved in a way to the media. His sister, Christina currently acts in Hollywood while his daughter, Carolyn is also an actress. She featured in Emmerdale as Shelley Williams.
