Tampa, Sept 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Former middle school teacher and sex offender Debra Lafave is no longer under probation after a judge ended it. The 31-year-old was arrested and charged with sex offences including having sex with a 14-year-old about six years ago.

She could have been given 30 years for the charges but a plea bargain helped her stay out of prison. She was given house arrest and placed on probation after the trial. Lafave petitioned the Hillsborough Circuit Court to lift the probation and the request was granted by the court on Thursday. The request was granted by Judge Wayne S. Timmerman but prosecutors say they will appeal the ruling of the judge.

The judge agreed that Lafave had served her house arrest and most of the probation period. The prosecutors say the ruling by the judge goes contrary to the agreement contained in the plea bargain.

Lafave recently gave birth to twins but she was to remain on probation until the 21st of November 2015.

The lawyer of Lafave John Fitzgibbons told reporters that the court made the right decision. He said that, “To every extent, we believe Ms. Lafave has done everything the court ordered her to do and done it well.”

Lafave entered into a plea bargain on the 22nd of November 2005 when she was charged with having sex with 14-year-old student in her former school Greco Middle School.
