Joey ChestnutJuly 5, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It was one of the most anticipated events of Coney Island and Nathan’s 95th famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest saw its winner for the four consecutive time yesterday as Joey Chestnut. The 6 feet one inch tall and 220 pound Joey Chestnut gorged 54 hot-dogs in 10 minutes and took away the title as well as a mustard yellow belt and $30,000 as his award. Reportedly, this construction engineer earns about $150,000 a year from competitive eating.

Joey Chestnut gorged on 54 hot-dogs but could not beat his last years record of eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes. The winner cited the reason for not consuming more as he had stopped drinking yesterday since the morning to prepare for the contest and hence was “dehydrated” before going to the stage. However, he was excited to get his award and told that it was Fourth of July and he had fun eating hot dogs in that scorching afternoon. Joey Chestnut admitted that he wanted to eat minimum 69 to 70 hot-dogs but he was slower than he wanted to be.

Tim Janus came second who could eat only 45 hot dogs, a way less than Joey Chestnut’s count. Tareku Kobayashi, the six times winner before Joey Chestnut could not compete this year because of the breach of contract with Major League Eating which organizes this event. The police took him in custody and charged him with trespassing and many other grounds as he tried to reach the stage. Joey Chestnut later said that irrespective of any other competitors, he would have won the contest.
