jerry-brownJan 3, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Jerry Brown returns today as the Governor of California after a gap of almost thirty years. He is faced with what is called a “day of reckoning” over a $28 billion budget gap. Jerry Brown, 72, served two terms from 1975 to 1983, as governor has promised a strict budget free from gimmicks. This budget would will skirt the gridlock which two years earlier had forced the state to pay a huge amount of bills. He has already told the Californians that they would face painful choices in restoring fiscal health. Whether he meant it to be taxes, was not made clear by him.

Gov. Jerry Brown would be sworn in Monday as the 39th governor of California, promising an era of sternness and a noticeably different style of leadership than that of the outgoing Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. Jerry Brown would become only the 2nd person serving three terms as the governor of California as he takes over from Arnold Schwarzenegger, who won office during the 2003 recall election. Jerry Brown’s tenure as the 34th governor, from 1975 to 1983, could be called the golden years for the Californian people. When he last held his job, he dated a number of celebrities thereby earning the nickname “Governor Moonbeam”. He returns to lead a state which has seen a lot of changes after he retired from his office in 1983.

Since he won in the November election, he has promised a bleak future of difficult choices from all sides. Jerry Brown has been married for five years to former Gap Inc. general counsel Anne Gust Brown. She is expected to play a significant role in his office. It is just a matter of time for people to find out whether he still has the same ability of governing a state.
