He was executed by applying lethal injection after the Apex Court lifted a stay. The convicted killer said, “I’d like to say ‘thank you’ to my family for being here and all of my friends.” The justices in the Apex Court overturned an order given by a Federal Judge earlier. Jeffrey Landrigan got convicted for killing Chester Dean Dyer in the year 1989. The execution was carried out at 10.26 pm regional time as it has been reported.

This is the first execution in Arizona since 2007. Terry Goddard the attorney general of the state used a law not known by many to prevent the identification of the executioners to overturn a court order that required Arizona to reveal the source of the anesthetic. His office informed the media that the product was obtained from a UK based manufacturer owing to a scarcity in the USA. However, he did not name the company at all. Sodium thiopental is generally used for executing prisoners but since it is not available in USA nowadays the state governments are now looking for alternate resource of supply. Illinois Company Hospira is the sole approved US supplier for the drug but in this case the state did not get the drug from it.

Jeffrey Landrigan had his tiff with law before getting convicted for killing Chester Dyer. He escaped from a prison in Oklahoma where he was serving sentence for another murder at that time. The death penalty give to him has raised controversy in legal circles in the state.
