roast-turkeyNov 25, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Thanksgiving is here finally and it is time to take out the big plates for the gala dinner. For many, the turkey dinner could be a make or break opportunity when it comes to establishing or asserting oneself as a cook in the family. It is also a great opportunity for families, friends and even neighbors to come together and enjoy a great meal. The meal in question, however, is not an easy one to prepare as it requires the roasting of one of the largest edible birds, the turkey.

Though the web has been abuzz with recipes for Thanksgivings over the last few days, the real test for the cooks is now. To start off with the dos for the turkey, one must ensure proper brining of the bird (preferably overnight) to ensure that the meat is soft and moist while cooking. If one chooses to stuff the bird, one should make sure that all the ingredients for the stuffing is arranged for. If one is going for the traditional stuffing of bread cooked in chicken broth with eggs, one must ensure that the broth is ready the night before.

Though there has been a buzz around grilled turkeys this year, roasting a turkey continues to be one cherished family tradition for many. One should make sure that after the bird has been cooked, it is wrapped in foil to ensure proper resting time. The resting time allows the juices from the stuffing and the meat to spread throughout the bird. 20 minutes per pound of the bird can be taken as the rule of the thumb for estimating the time required to cook the bird.
