- JERUSALEM (BNO NEWS) — The Israeli navy on Sunday says it has successfully tested the latest model of its Barak ship-borne anti-missile system.
The test took place earlier this week, according to a military statement. It featured an improved version of the missile that includes upgrades to its rocket interception capabilities. “The Barak system is one of the most advanced anti-missile systems in the world,” a spokesperson said.
During the test, a Barak missile was launched from the Navy Ship Lahav, a Sa’ar 5 type corvette, against a target simulating an incoming enemy missile. The incoming missile was successfully intercepted.
The Barak missile is launched in a vertical position and is able to fire at any target 360 degrees around the ship. The Israeli Navy is now improving and modernizing its battle systems in order to prepare for security challenges.
The system was developed by the IDF, the Israeli Navy, the RAFAEL Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. and the Israeli Aerospace Industries.
