SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN (BNO NEWS) — A Islamic NGO on Sunday called on Michigan state and federal law enforcement authorities to investigate a possible bias motive for recent vandalism at a mosque.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said officials with the Islamic Association of Michigan in Brownstown, Michigan report that in two incidents — the first on May 9 and the second on May 15 — vandals broke windows and the glass in an entryway door. The vandals were reportedly caught on surveillance video.

“Given recent events, including the failed Times Square bombing and attacks on Muslim individuals and institutions nationwide, a possible bias motive for these acts of vandalism should be investigated,” said CAIR’s Michigan director Dawud Walid.

On Saturday, CAIR’s San Diego chapter called for hate crime charges to be brought against a man who allegedly used racial slurs during an attack Wednesday on an Afghan-American Muslim taxi driver.

CAIR also questioned the silence of public officials and national media about a bomb attack Monday on a Florida mosque.
