Punxsutawney, Feb 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) All gates in Pennsylvania lead to Gobbler’s Knob on the 2nd of February for Groundhog’s Day. It is an annual tradition since 1887 in which people travel to Gobbler’s Knob and speculate about the arrival of spring.

The famous groundhog known as Punxsutawney Phil is lured out of his abode and then if he is able to see his shadow then it is an indicator that the cold wave will continue for a while, and could last up a month and a half more. However in case he is unable to see his shadow then its an indicator that spring is close by and the cold weather is all set to bid adieu very soon.

There are many people who keep this tradition alive, despite numerous advances in the prediction of weather. “We’ve had as many as 40,000. We’re used to 15-20,000,” according to Mike Johnston, who is the vice-president of the Groundhog Club Inner Circle.

“Phil is incapable of error, so he has been 100 percent spot on. We find that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and we accept it for what it is,” Johnston also added.
