Iron Major movie is based on Frank Cavanaugh

Frank Cavanaugh was a visionary leader in both football and war. He joined the United States Army in World War I and advanced with admiration to the rank of major. Cavanaugh would make motivational and energizing speeches to his troops in war or to his players before a game.
He was a celebrated military hero who overcame serious World War I injuries to live a complete life and even engage in a highly-successful coaching career as a football head coach. His undefeated 1920 coached football team was scored upon only twice and earned Boston College’s first Eastern Football Championship with pride.
“The Iron Major” is a movie, which is based on his life and his spirit. It was made in 1943, with Pat O’Brien. He is also enshrined in the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into the Boston College Varsity Club Athletic Hall of Fame in 1970.
Major Cavanaugh died August 29, 1933 at age 57.
