Iraqi Security Forces arrested six-suspected al-Qaeda terrorists

BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – Iraqi Security Forces (ISF) arrested six-suspected al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) terrorists on Thursday, U.S. Forces in Iraq said.

ISF and U.S. advisors searched a several buildings during three joint security operations conducted in central and northern Iraq in their efforts to prevent attacks prior to the upcoming national elections.

The operations were performed in southern and northwestern Baghdad and in Bayji, located approximately 101 km southwest of Kirkuk. As a result, joint forces identified and captured two wanted AQI members believed to assist the terrorist group in acquiring funding as well as staging improvised-explosive device attacks throughout the capital city preceding the approaching elections.

With the evidence gathered at the scene, two suspected criminal accomplices were later captured by ISF, and Iraqi Police were able to arrest another two suspected associates of a warranted AQI leader for central Diyala Province who is allegedly responsible for multiple attacks against security forces in Iraq.

Iraqi and U.S. forces conduct joint operations in accordance with the Security Agreement and in coordination with the Iraqi government to target terrorists seeking to disrupt the security and stability of Iraq.
