BAGHDAD, IRAQ (BNO NEWS) – Iraqi Security Forces have arrested five suspected terrorists Friday during two joint security operations conducted in Northern Iraq, targeting suspected members of al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) explosive cells.

In a rural area, located approximately 108 km Kirkuk, the 3rd Emergency Response Unit and U.S. Advisors searched a build for suspected AQI member believed to be involved in planning a deadly vehicle-borne improvised explosive device in the Mosul and Bayji areas.

Inside the residential building, the security team found an AK-47 rifle and a handgun.

After conducting preliminary questioning and assessing the evidence at the scene, Iraqi Police arrested two suspected criminal accomplices of the warranted AQI member.

In a separate security operation, conducted about 5 km south of Mosul, ISF and U.S. advisors searched another residential building for a suspected AQI-explosives cell member. The security team discovered a hidden compartment inside the building that contained an AK-47 rifle and AQI propaganda.

Evidence collected at the scene led the ISF to identify and arrest the warranted individual and two of his collaborators.
