Iraqi forces arrest suspected al-Qaeda cell leader
March 14th, 2010 - 5:45 pm ICT by BNO News ( Leave a comment )BAGHDAD (BNO NEWS) — Iraqi forces on Friday arrested a suspected leader of an al-Qaeda cell in Al Fadil, the U.S. military said on Sunday.
The identity of the suspected terrorist was not immediately released, but the U.S. military said he is believed to have led an al-Qaeda cell operating in Baghdad.
The suspect was taken into custody by an element of the Iraqi Emergency Response Brigade, operating under the authority of a warrant issued by the Central Investigative Court of Al Karkh. The elite police force was assisted by U.S. forces advisors.
“Once again, the Emergency Response Brigade highlights their personal commitment to providing safety, security and stability to the people of Iraq,” said Army Maj. Catina Barnes, a Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force - Arabian Peninsula spokesperson.
