handTehran, Oct 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Iranian man is likely to pay a heavy price for stealing chocolates from a candy store after a judge sentenced him to have his hand chopped off. A reputed news agency in Iran has reported that the 21-year-old man, whose identity has been withheld, is likely to have his hand amputated for committing the crime of stealing chocolates and cocoa from a candy shop in the capital city of Tehran.

The sentencing to the unidentified man was handed over by Judge Mohammad Reza Giyuki who also contended that apart from the amputation of his hand, the man should also serve a prison term of six months for destruction of property. At the same time, the judge also added that the 21-year-old man should spend an additional six months behind the bars for resisting arrest, as per the Islamic Sharia law. It has been reported that the man was taken into custody in the month of May this year after he was found driving in a suspicious manner by the authorities and during the arrest, the cops were able to recover chocolates, cocoa and cash from him. Soon after the man was arrested, a complaint was lodged of a robbery at a candy store in Tehran and later while in police custody, the unidentified man confessed to stealing the chocolates from the candy shop.

The sentencing to amputate the hand of the candy thief comes on the heels of a similar incident in which a man’s hand was chopped off in Mashhad after he was found guilty of carrying out multiple robberies.
