Iran To Reconsider The Death Sentence Of 43 Year Old Mother

2585Tehran, July 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Owing to the International pressure upon Iran, the judicial authorities of the state have finally declared to reconsider a woman’s death sentence. Reportedly, the 43 year old lady who happens to be the mother of two was sentenced to death by stoning by the Irani authorities. They are of the opinion that this is the ultimate punishment that one should receive for adultery.

Sakineh Mohamamadi Ashtiani, a resident of Tabriz was accused of cheating her husband and was sentenced to death by stoning after two consecutive trials. Since then, several different international rights groups like Amnesty International has raised their voice against the brutal punishment. The issue became a headline in the newspapers and soon a center of discussion in Western parliament. It was heavily condemned by American Senator John Kerry and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. The issue has also caught the attention of high profile celebrities like Lindsay Lohan, Coiln Firth and Emma Thompson. Iran authorities have declared that the appeal to withdraw the death sentence shall be reviewed following which they shall announce the final verdict. However, they refrained to admit that the decision was due to the international pressure.

Pashad Husseini who happens to be an advocate working for the International Committee Against Stoning called the decision to be a victory for one and all who stood by Sakineh Mohamamadi Ashtiani. He also thanked the international media for the fast coverage of the news without which the case would have remained latent. He further said that his organization has a proud history of 30 years for stoning sentences all over the world and it won’t be any different in this case.
