Iran successfully tests Fateh-110 missile

TEHRAN, IRAN (BNO NEWS) – Iran successfully tested on Wednesday a new version of the Fateh missile, the Fateh-110, state-run media reported.

The domestically-built missile is a medium-range ballistic weapon with improved precision ranking with improved precision in targeting. The development of the Fateh-110 is part of the government to improve its military.

“The third generation missile was designed and developed by the Iranian experts in the Defense Ministry’s Aerospace Organization and it was not modeled from any foreign product,” the Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said.

“The newly tested missile enjoys high precision. It uses highly precise navigation and control systems in this missile have enabled it to hit targets with high precision,” the Defense Minister added.

Vahidi also said that the Fateh-110 will be available for the Iranian Armed Forces by mid-September. Iran plans to significantly boost the missile power of its armed forces and has been successfully designing, producing and testing missiles.

On Tuesday, Iran also tested a new type surface to surface, cruise missile, named Qiam 1. Such missile is equipped with new technical features and exceptional tactical power, including a smart navigation system to decrease interception by other projectiles.

The Islamic nation has also recently unveiled the nation’s first Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Iran said that the weapons are part of its doctrine of defense and are aimed at strengthening security in the region.

The Iranian arms development program was launched during the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war. Since 1992, Iran has produced its own jet fighters and armored vehicles as well as radar-avoiding missiles and other high-tech weapons.

Iran has repeatedly said that its military and weapons programs are for defense purposes only and should not be perceived as a threat to any country.
