Iran accuses U.S. after nuke scientist vanishes
October 8th, 2009 - 6:17 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattTehran, Oct 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Iran’s top nuclear scientist Shahram Amiri who went on a pilgrimage has vanished from the face of the earth. So his parent country, worried about his whereabouts is accusing the United States of involvement in his disappearance. This in turn raises a new question mark at a time when the West is already trying to gauge the true extent of Iran’s nuclear program.
According to reports, Shahram Amiri vanished during a pilgrimage to the kingdom more than four months ago and so far Saudi Arabia has not responded to requests for information on his whereabouts. But in complaints about his disappearance, Iranian officials have avoided even mentioning that Amiri was involved in nuclear research — a sign of the sensitivities surrounding the case.
Iranian officials say, His disappearance came months before the revelation of a second uranium enrichment facility near the city of Qom that the United States accuses Iran of building secretly, a claim Tehran denies. The timing has raised speculation that Amiri may have given the West information on it or on the other parts of Iran’s nuclear program, so Iran is feeling the sabotage heat by the US.
