Iowa Man Arrested for Sending 500 ‘Stolen’ Texts

mobile Iowa City, IOWA February 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Christopher Smead, 21 years old, has been arrested and charged with sending over 500 texts messages from a stolen phone in Iowa City, Iowa. Smead allegedly took a cell phone from the locker room of Core Fitness Center and used it to send over 500 text messages, all without the owner’s knowledge or consent. He sent these messages all day Friday, from early (1:55am) until late in the evening(11:43pm) and they continued until 4pm on Saturday, according to Verizon. He was charged with fifth degree theft, according to the police.

When he was arrested, Christopher was also charged with the possession of an air pistol, that he was carrying when he made a visit to the main library at the University of Iowa, which is a misdemeanor.

Although he did not appear in court on his set date for the charge of carrying the air pistol, he pleaded guilty to his offenses after being arrested and is currently serving a 30 day sentence.
