Information about Memorial Day closings

New York, May 28 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Numerous businesses all over the US will be closed today, Monday 28th, in observance of the Memorial Day holiday. All non emergency local and federal offices, post offices, museums, landfills, liquor stores, schools, higher education centres, university, other academic institutions, and libraries will be closed.

There will be no mail delivery. Trash / rubbish collection will be postponed in most US states.

Most financial institutions and courts will also close, with the exception of some Citizens Bank branches, in the case of banks, and adult arraignments and new juvenile referrals, in the same of the courts. Some supermarkets and publishers will be open. All emergency services will continue to operate.

Memorial Day is an annual US federal holiday celebrated on the last Monday of May. It is a day to honor all US Armed Forces officers who have died while serving. Previously known as Decoration Day, the holiday originated after the Civil War to remember the Union soldiers who died during the Civil War.

Today, Memorial Day commemorates all US citizens who have died as a result of any military conflict. The holiday marks the start of the summer season.
