indo-twinsWhile siblings universally happen to share a rather special bond, here’s one pair that went quite beyond. It may be natural for siblings, and twins at that, to be close enough to be labeled ‘inseparable’, but the recent international reports of a pair of twin little boys from Indonesia, have put quite a literal spin on the expression.

Born to an Indonesian woman, in the Riau province of western Indonesia, this pair of conjoined twins, are reportedly the first such case of birth on record. Born with a single body, the twins share almost all vital organs with the exceptions of the head and heart.

Accordingly, the little boys have two heads and two hearts but have been born with only a single pair of lungs and a single pair of arms between them. Weighing, about 7 pounds (roughly 3.2 kilograms) at birth, the babies were initially being monitored and treated at the Puri Husada Hospital in Tembihalan, Indragiri, Hilir Regency, but had to be shifted to the Arifin Achmad General Hospital in Pekanbaru for better medical care.

Being monitored by a host of doctors and trained medical professionals, the condition of the babies however, remains critical with virtually no hope of a surgical intervention that could possibly better the chances of the babies’ survival.

The doctors seem unanimous in being of the medical opinion, that the twins are surgically inseparable, Meanwhile, they have also stated that the condition of the babies is “very bad’ implying the possibility of the feared eventuality, that they may not make it at all.
