Indonesian clinic alleges that smoking cures cancer
April 13th, 2011 - 9:57 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattJakarta, April 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) An Indonesian clinic shocked the world when they claimed that they can cure cancer and autism with cigarette smoke.
Indonesia has one of the highest rates of smokers in the world. AP reports that some parents even give cigarettes to their toddlers just to keep them quite. There are laws banning public smoking in the country but according to observers the laws are not implemented.
The hospital Griya Balur which was founded by Dr. Gretha Zahar claims that they have in a matter of ten years cured about 60,000 people with various kinds of diseases including cancer with their smoking therapy. Zahar calls the smoke “Divine Cigarettes.”
Zahar’s use of tobacco goes very contrary to the opinion of the World Health Organization. The WHO says tobacco is addictive and harmful to one’s health. According to the WHO, smoking related illness claims the lives of about 425,000 people every year throughout the world. So far Indonesia has failed to rectify the WHO’s Framework Convention on Tobacco Control. That means the country is the only one in the region not to have done so.
Anti-smoking activists are working to get tobacco restricted in the country.
