New York, May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A Malaysian man has been arrested after he tried to smuggle nine people in Queen Mary 2 to New York. The nine were arrested by the authorities when they reached the port in New York.

The suspected smuggler has been identified as 49-year-old Fatt Kwee Wong. The authorities say when he was arrested he had a Japanese passport on himself. He failed to cooperate with the police when he was asked to identify the nine people he tried to smuggle.

The nine people were picked up by port agents at the New York Cruise Terminal in Red Hook, Brooklyn. They were five women and four men and they have been detained by the authorities. The New York Daily News reported that the smuggled people were detained last month. Court papers say the nine people boarded the luxury ocean liner in Dubai.

The investigators have identified that each of the nine people paid $3,000 to smuggle links in China. They further paid $500 to Wong when they boarded the ship. After boarding the ship, the immigrants roamed freely in the ship. Wong is also wanted in Bermuda for similar smuggling offenses.

The Queen Mary 2 is regarded as the “most luxurious ocean liner ever build.”
