I’m not a witch and I’d like my life back: Top 2 quotes of 2010

December 13, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Yale Book of Quotations has picked Christine O’Donnell’s line ‘I’m not a witch’ as the topmost quote of the year 2010. She had spoken this line during her TV ad while campaigning for US Senate.

In the ad, Christine was vehemently defending allegations that she had practiced witch-crafty years ago. Her quote has been chosen by Fred Shapiro, associate librarian at Yale Law School, as he releases his 5th annual list of famous quotations of the year.

Reasons why it made it to the top: Shapiro maintains that it was a pretty unconventional quote coming from a political mouth.

However, it was the joint winner alongside another quote that runs as ‘I’d like my life back’ mouthed by BP’s CEO Tony Hayward in May after US saw one of its worst offshore oil spills. Shapiro suggests that he had become the centre of public’s wrath who loathed him for his fascination towards yacht races and normalcy at the time when the Gulf Coast was going through such crisis.

These two quotes that have topped the list surface from two of the biggest news stories of the year- Tea Party Emergence and Gulf Coast Oil Spill.

The other 3 quotes that made it to the top 5 are:

“If you touch my junk, I’m gonna have you arrested.” As uttered by a disgruntled passenger John Tyner to a TSA worker at the San Diego Airport on 13th November, 2010.

Sarah Palin’s tweet as on 23rd March made it 4th on the list that ran as, “Don’t retreat. Instead- reload!”
And the chant that was lipped on 13th October at Chilean mine rescue rounded off the top 5. “Chi! Chi! Chi! Le! Le! Le! Los mineros de Chile!”
