BERMUDA (BNO NEWS) – Hurricane force winds are expected to sweep over the Island nation of Bermuda on Wednesday and Thursday, meteorologists said on Tuesday.

Wednesday will likely start off with strong wind gales in Bermuda from 30 to 40-knot (34.5 to 46 miles per hour) gusts that will likely increase throughout the day and eventually surge to hurricane force winds of 64 knots (74 miles per hour). There will likely also be an afternoon of rain and thunderstorms.

Numerous warnings have been issued by the Bermuda Weather Service, including a Small Craft Warning, Gale Warning, and Storm Warning. Seas inside the reef are expected to reach between four and twelve feet.

It is not known if the Causeway, a narrow strip of reclaimed land and bridges in the north of Bermuda linking Hamilton on the mainland with Bermuda International Airport on St. David’s Island, will be closed. The Government has done so in the past when winds reached 50 knots.
