Gulf of Mexico, Jun 30 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Gulf of Mexico is bracing itself for the first hurricane of the year, as tropical storm Alex is getting strengthened into a hurricane. Texas and northeastern Mexico authorities have issued warnings to their residents on Tuesday.
One woman has already died from the category one hurricane in Tamaulipas Mexico, after the storm collapsed the wall of her home. The Mexican authorities have been on emergency alert since then. Cleanup efforts in the oil-filled gulf have collapsed, due to the strong force of the winds and rain accompanying Alex.
Texas has been declared a state of emergency, by US president Obama and federal aid has also been ordered to help local response measures even before Alex gets there.
Rick Perry, who is Texas’ governor, has ordered for the release of resources to local communities in order to help relief efforts before the hurricane arrives. Americans have been advised to monitor the storms and get prepared for it, by the department of Homeland Security.
“The most important thing for people living in the area to do right now is to ensure their family is prepared and to follow the instructions of state and local officials,” according to Craig Fugate, who is the chief of FEMA.
