New York, Aug 31, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hurricane Earl has gained strength and turned into a category 4 hurricane a development that has kept the weather officials on their toes. They are trying to find out the possible course of the powerful tropical storm. It has also made the vacationers and residents of the Long island coastal region worried as they are having second thoughts about getting into the sea water for bath and surfing. Whether the storm hits Long Island or New York or not it is sure to make the waves rough. It is following Hurricane Danielle which hit the sea a few days back. On Monday night Earl was passing through the Caribbean region and had wind speed of 135 mph. The data was given by the National Hurricane Center.
The met officials have apprehended that Earl may hit Jersey shore region on Friday and cause rainfall and strong wind. There is a possibility that it may not enter mainland but even then strong winds will be felt in the coastal region and New York City. It is not sure if the storm hits the mainland will it retain its strength or not. The chance of damages to property in that case cannot be ruled out. As per the standards of the US National Hurricane Center, a hurricane with strength of Category 4 is capable of causing catastrophic damage.
There is high possibility of casualty and damage to the property in the affected region. The authorities in New York and Long Island are prepared to brave the storm if it hits mainland. The evacuation plans are also in place.
