Hundreds attend Reno Park memorial

Reno, Nev., Sept 26 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Sunday, a memorial was held for the victims of the air disaster that occurred at the National Championship Air Races. Hundreds of people attended the memorial which was also attended by survivors of the accident, politicians and leaders of the state of Nevada. The September 16th accident is regarded as the worst air show accident in the history of the United States.

An oak tree at the Reno Park will serve as a reminder of the people who were killed and injured in the accident. Governor Brian Sandoval praised those who rushed to the scene to save lives when the accident happened.

During the memorial on Sunday, Sandoval told the gathering that, “The accident at the Reno Air Races will not only be remembered for its sense of loss and tragedy‚Ķ It will be remembered because of the way this community responded‚Ķ and those who simply stood and prayed.”

The ill-fated plane was being controlled by veteran pilot Jimmy Leeward. The 74-year-old died along with ten others died after the accident. 70 others were also rushed to the hospital and most of them have since been treated and left the hospital.

The surviving victims and relatives of the dead are being given professional help to help them recover from the accident and the loss.
