Hugo Chavez to start chemotherapy treatment
July 18th, 2011 - 6:52 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattCaracas, Venezuela, July 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez has flown to Cuba to start chemotherapy. The 56-year-old was in Cuba almost a month ago where he underwent a surgery to have a tumor removed from his body. Chavez is confident that he will be able to win his fight against cancer after his chemotherapy session in Cuba.
Chavez left the Venezuelan capital Caracas on Saturday and before he flew out, he told his supporters that he will start his treatment at a hospital in Havana on Sunday. He said the procedure is necessary to ensure that the cancerous cells which were removed in his earlier operation do not re-appear.
In a televised address to his people, Chavez assured that he will be back after just a few days. He said that, “It’s not time to die. It’s time to live. I’m saying goodbye for some days, but in a deeper sense I’m not saying goodbye. … I’ll be attentive every day, every hour, every minute to internal events and I’ll be in permanent contact.”
One of his daughters, Rosa, accompanied him on the trip. Chavez has charged his vice president, Elías Jaua, to be in charge of the country as he goes away.
