Hudson River Tragedy: Helicopter And Airplane Crash Leaves 9 Dead

helicopter-and-plane-crash-hudson-riverYesterday, August 8, the horizon above the Hudson River at the New Jersey waterfront was lined with the debris of crash that shocked and horrified the onlookers. All people who had gathered to sunbathe or hang around were witness to the awful airborne crash as a single engine plane and a tourist sightseeing helicopter met in a head on collision.

The collision took place over the Hudson river and in the following moments the mangled parts of both the aircraft were drawn to the bed of the 30 feet deep water body. Search hunts were launched immediately but no survivors have been found as of now, according to the reports. There were reportedly nine passengers on board in the two aircraft and no trace of any one has been found till now.

The crash had reportedly occurred at about noon. Reports seem to indicate that there were more number of passengers in the tourist chopper, most of who were Italian tourists (who lived in the Bologna area) come to see New York City. The spokesperson for the Italian Embassy in Washington, Fabrizio Bucci has released the names for the five who have lost their lives in the crash, they are: Tiziana Pedrone, Fabio Gallazzi, Giacomo Gallazzi, Michele Norelli and Filippo Norelli. There were reportedly two youths in the group and the rest were adults.

The tour operator, Liberty Helicopters, has released the name of the pilot for the helicopter was Jeremy Clark of Lanoka Harbor, N.J. 60 year old Steven Altman was the pilot for the plane. He was accompanied by his brother Daniel Altman and a teenage boy.
