Hoover dam helicopter crash kills 5
December 8th, 2011 - 11:58 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLas Vegas, Dec 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A tourist helicopter has crashed in Las Vegas. Officials fear that all five people on board the chopper have died. The plane came down on Wednesday evening at a remote location near Lake Mead.
The National Transportation Safety Board says the victims were touring the area aboard the chopper which is owned and operated by Sundance Helicopters in Las Vegas. Officials announced on Thursday that they will try to retrieve the bodies from the crash scene which has been identified. 12-member recovery team has gone to the site to remove the bodies.
Witnesses told newsmen that they heard a loud noise after the crash and saw from the location. Officials say there were one pilot and four passengers on the helicopter when it came down. The crash has raised concerns about the safety of helicopters operated by Sundance Helicopters.
In 2003, a tourist plane operated by the firm crashed near the Grand Canyon West Airport. All the seven people aboard the plane died in the crash.
Sundance assures the public that they operate with safety in mind. On the official website of the, they have written that, “All our helicopters are maintained with exacting precision and our pilots are trained then retrained with ongoing recertification in excess of FAA requirements.”
